Pat Robertson

And YOU get a pardon!

He can grant a blanket pardon for everybody involved in everything and say, ‘All right, I pardon them all, case closed, it’s all over.’ I think that is what he needs to do … he’s got to shut this thing down, he’s just got to.

– Evangelical conservative pundit Pat Robertson, October 30, 2017, advocating that Donald Trump pardon his way out of crimes

Many fine people, on both sides

He [Robert E. Lee] was a man that gave up his country to fight for his state which in 150 years ago was more important than country. It was always loyalty to state first back in those days. Now it’s different today. But the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War. And men and women of good faith on both sides made their stand where their conscience had to make their stand.

– White House Chief of Staff General John Kelly, October 30, 2017, arguing that people “of good faith on both sides” couldn’t compromise over the issue of slavery, leading to the Civil War

Don’t call him a journo

I’m not a journalist, I am a talk show host. And I don’t want Hillary Clinton to be President… I have over a thousand pages of op research on Hillary Clinton, and I will be unloading at the right time. Now’s not the right time.

Projexecution

If this had happened in the 1950s, there would be people up on treason charges right now. The Rosenbergs, OK? This is equivalent to what the Rosenbergs did and those people got the chair. Think about it. Giving away nuclear capability to our enemies, that’s what we’re talking about.

– Actual Nazi and former White House official Sebastian Gorka, October 26, 2017, calling for the execution of the President’s political opponents for non-scandals

Black African crime

You do not make legislation out of anomalies. Our big issue is black African gun crime against black Africans. It is a tragedy. Go to Chicago, go to cities run by Democrats for forty years, black young men are murdering each other by the bushel.

– White nationalist and actual Nazi Sebastian Gorka, October, 2017, using the time-tested dog whistle of urban crime to promote more policing of black “African” communities

Mad at god

You know, am I mad at God? Yeah, I’m mad at him. I wish I had more protection. I wish this stuff didn’t happen. I can’t explain it to you. Yeah, I’m mad at him.

– Conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly, October 22, 2017, blaming his god for his own sexual misconduct at work

Slaves and gays

In 1857 the United States Supreme Court did rule that black people were property. Of course that contradicted the Constitution, and it took a civil war to overturn it. But this ruling in Obergefell is even worse in a sense because it forces not only people to recognize marriage other than the institution ordained of God and recognized by nearly every state in the union, it says that you now must do away with the definition of marriage and make it between two persons of the same gender or leading on, as one of the dissenting justices said, to polygamy, to multi-partner marriages.

– Conservative Republican Roy Moore, 2016, comparing the Dred Scott Decision, which made African Americans could not be citizens, to the Obergefell Decision, which legalized gay marriage

Peurto Ricans are white, so it’s not racist

As a factual matter, Puerto Rico is 75 percent white, according to the U.S. Census. So, I’m not sure how it’s — I’m reading the Census numbers. I’m not sure how that’s racist. I mean, maybe he doesn’t like Puerto Ricans or maybe he did a bad job, that’s all fair, but racist?

– Conservative pundit Tucker Carlson, October 29, 2017, appearing to not realize that census racial demographic data is self-reported and that most Americans don’t consider Puerto Ricans white
