Miracles

What happened in Las Vegas is in many ways a miracle. The police department has done such an incredible job, and we’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes by. But I do have to say how quickly the police department was able to get in was really very much of a miracle. They’ve done an amazing job.

– President Donald J. Trump, October, 2017, calling the police response to a shooting where the shooter finished firing on his own terms after killing 58 and injuring hundreds “a miracle”

Real catastrophy

Every death is a horror, but if you look at a real catastrophe like Katrina, and you look at the tremendous hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people that died and you look at what happened here with, really, a storm that was just totally overpowering.

– President Donald J. Trump, October 3, 2017, telling Puerto Ricans that their hurricane wasn’t a real catastrophe

Mass Shootings + More Guns = Fewer Shootings

It’s too bad that some of the young people that were killed over the weekend didn’t have guns, you know, attached to their hips, frankly, and you know where bullets could have flown in the opposite direction.

– Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump, June 13, 2016, in the wake of the largest mass shooting in US history at the time

No more gun free zones

I will get rid of gun-free zones on schools, and — you have to — and on military bases. My first day, it gets signed, okay? My first day. There’s no more gun-free zones.

– Republican President Donald J. Trump, January 8, 2016, campaigning to take away the rights of private businesses, our military, cities, and states to determine gun-free zones

Asbestos and the mob

I believe that the movement against asbestos was led by the mob, because it was often mob-related companies that would do the asbestos removal. Great pressure was put on politicians, and as usual, the politicians relented. Millions of truckloads of this incredible fire-proofing material were taken to special “dump sites” and asbestos was replaced by materials that were supposedly safe but couldn’t hold a candle to asbestos in limiting the ravages of fire.

– Republican President Donald J. Trump, 1997
