Mo Brooks

Revenues are too low! Cut revenues!

I would love for every American to have a perfect health care system where we can deliver perfect care every time someone is ill, but we don’t have enough money. We have to take into account our financial limitations and do the best we can.

The folks that had the money are the ones that create the jobs that employ us. We can take money from the people who have been successful, but every time we do so they have less money to invest. In a free enterprise economy, it’s the wealth that creates the businesses that creates the jobs for our blue collar and middle class workforce. It’s all interrelated and a tough balance to achieve, as evidenced by the Senate having such a difficult time.

– Alabama Republican Mo Brooks, July, 2017

Donald J. Trump

Man of the people

Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, you’re 21 years old, you start working and you’re paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you’re 70, you get a nice plan.

– President Donald J. Trump, July 19, 2017, betraying that he thinks health insurance costs $12/year for a 21 year old

National Review

Conservative Intelligencia Lying

We would, however, recommend that conservative senators vote for the bill — and that all Republicans do a better job of defending it from the Left’s hysterical attacks. The bill would not “throw 22 million people off insurance,” the Congressional Budget Office has not said so [lie], and Democrats and reporters who claim otherwise are telling untruths. The bulk of the CBO’s 22 million would voluntarily drop insurance if not threatened with fines. Obamacare hasn’t been shown to have saved any lives (mortality trends since its implementation are not especially encouraging [double lie]), and there is little reason to expect a partial repeal of it to endanger any. Nothing in the bill requires any state to roll back eligibility for Medicaid. And so on.

The National Review, July 14, 2017, straight-up lying about the Senate healthcare bill

Pat Toomey

Legislation isn’t his bag

Look, I didn’t expect Donald Trump to win, I think most of my colleagues didn’t, so we didn’t expect to be in this situation.

– Republican Senator Pat Toomey, July 6, 2017, explaining why he and his colleagues had so much trouble with a health care bill, despite total control over the federal government, and winning electoral success on attacking Obamacare (while voting to repeal it over 50 times)

Kellyanne Conway

Obvious Lie is Obvious

Obamacare took Medicaid, which was designed to help the poor, the needy, the sick, disabled, also children and pregnant women, it took it and went way above the poverty line to many able-bodied Americans.

– White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, June 25, 2017, telling a whopper of a lie about the ACA

Mike Pence

Smoking Doesn’t Kill

Time for a quick reality check. Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn’t kill. In fact, 2 out of every three smokers does not die from a smoking related illness and 9 out of ten smokers do not contract lung cancer.

– Vice President Mike Pence, 2000
