Roy Moore

Slaves and gays

In 1857 the United States Supreme Court did rule that black people were property. Of course that contradicted the Constitution, and it took a civil war to overturn it. But this ruling in Obergefell is even worse in a sense because it forces not only people to recognize marriage other than the institution ordained of God and recognized by nearly every state in the union, it says that you now must do away with the definition of marriage and make it between two persons of the same gender or leading on, as one of the dissenting justices said, to polygamy, to multi-partner marriages.

– Conservative Republican Roy Moore, 2016, comparing the Dred Scott Decision, which made African Americans could not be citizens, to the Obergefell Decision, which legalized gay marriage

Steve King

Ottoman Eunuchs

Back in the 16th century and the 17th century, when the Ottoman Empire and the Muslim armies were sweeping across the countryside, and whoever they captured they pressed into slavery. They did reassignment surgery on those slaves that they captured that they had put into their Janissary troops.

They found out when they put them out in the field to do battle against the enemy that they didn’t have the testosterone to take on the fight. They finally realized, I guess we’re going to have to stop turning these men into eunuchs.

That’s a lesson of the military, the Ottoman military, from 200, 300, 400 years ago.

– Republican Congressman Steve King, July, 2017, appearing to not really understand his own historical bologna (nor the time period). Ottoman Janissaries were famously capable and well-compensated.

Louie Gohmert

17th Century Transgender Troops?

King Jan Sobieski, who came to the aid of the Viennese People — They were under siege. They were going to be defeated. It meant the fall of Western civilization. This Polish King comes down, determined, gets cannon up on this mountaintop that no one who is in the two years of seeking a sex change operation and change re-assignment, as they call it, could possibly help do during that two-year period.

– Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert, July, 2017, discussing transgender troops in the military

Execution for sodomy

Well I don’t, you know, I’m not here to outline any punishments for sodomy. That’s far beyond any issues I’ve come in contact with. I can’t help what some people say, what some people do…

In 1960, every state in the union had laws against sodomy. And in the beginning of the country, in 1776, all 13 colonies had laws against sodomy. So sodomy is historically against the law.

– Alabama Republican Roy Moore, September, 2017, when asked whether he thinks homosexuals should be executed

Fox News

Confederates and Queers

But you know what’s really interesting and really incredible irony here is the same people that are demanding that the Confederate flag comes down are the same people that are insisting that the rainbow flag goes up. These two flags represent the exact same thing. That certain people groups are not welcome here.
